A Glasgow man was fined €2,000 for buying fake Viagra, which was then laced with the active ingredient sildenafil.
The man, who was pronounced not to be known by his first name, bought the drug from the online pharmacy, in the city’s central business district, on Monday.
He then sent it to him through the internet, with an email and a link to the drug’s packaging, which he said he purchased online from a source.
“My order arrived and arrived,” he said.
“I was shocked. The packaging was fake, it was all there was. It was fake Viagra and it was laced with sildenafil.”
His order was for a pack of 28 tablets, which contained 28mg of sildenafil, or Viagra, for one tablet. The total price of the tablets was €7,500. His co-owner, David Lister, said the pills were fake, which could have been bought from a website.
The man told the court he only purchased the tablets from an online source in his home in Glasgow, which had not yet been confirmed.
The court hearing lasted about two and a half hours.
The case was transferred to the Crown Prosecution Service after the case was dismissed on Thursday.
Councillor Robitussaniam Khan, of the Department of Justice, said: “The court’s decision to revoke the licence has been welcomed by our lawyers and I look forward to seeing how this comes to pass.
“The case against David Lister was brought to light as a case against David Lister, who has served as the current Chief Officer of Glasgow Enterprise.
“This is not a simple case and we look forward to a fair and free trial conducted by a panel of three (3) court officials to determine this matter.
“This is an important one, as this decision supports the further development of the regulatory regime in relation to online pharmacies.”
The case has already been dismissed after the MHRA’s review.
