WASHINGTON —A woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in a U. S. facility in Connecticut was given Viagra after she was told it was the medication that caused her to be diagnosed with it.
Dr. Stephanie Greenway, a urologist, was admitted to the hospital with a brain infection and was given Viagra to treat her symptoms.
She took the medication to treat a brain infection called amyloidosis, a type of autoimmune disease.
When she went to the hospital, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She was given Viagra and was given the medication for the first time. The doctors were not sure whether the medication affected her brain.
After her treatment, she noticed she had signs of amyloidosis in her brain, like "swelling, tenderness, a feeling like a lump in her throat." The brain was affected. She went to the hospital and saw a doctor.
The doctors diagnosed her with Alzheimer's disease with amyloidosis, and her doctor prescribed Viagra. It was the first time she had been diagnosed with this type of disease.
"It was the first time I had to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but it's been the most painful experience I've had in my entire life," she said.
Michael Tromburt, a urologist at the University of Connecticut Hospital, says he's seen patients with Alzheimer's disease every month. He says some doctors are not familiar with the condition. He says it's common.

A new study shows that men can get free erectile dysfunction medication — but only if they are sexually active.
The findings are a surprise because the Food and Drug Administration is advising men to keep their erectile dysfunction medication — which is the active ingredient in Viagra — out of the reach of anyone — including women — until the drug’s approval.
